Consol locks stakeholders out

Author: derek - Categories: governance, investor relations

Consol Glass is a former listed company on the JSE bourse in South Africa. I wanted to see an annual report done for them for the 2006 financial year, and to my surprise found that I had to log in to view not only their archive of financial reports, but their investor press releases as well!

Getting knowledge on who visits your website is invaluable information, but usually there is a transaction that has to take place. Registering for viewing information that is available elsewhere on the web is anachronistic: what service is Consol offering that is unique? Take time and effort to see Consol’s spin on things? No thanks, I’m off to Google or Moneyweb or my favourite dial-a-quote. Anyways, once you get an ID of a site visitor you can identify how long which analyst spent looking at what pages: Urgh! Creepy and probably unethical.

Injury(Insult)++, I did register and have not received my login key yet.
Methinks this Consol Glass is not transparent…

Old blog discoverd in ruins of Geocities

Author: derek - Categories: social media, weblogs

I was digging through some old files and found my old blogger install file. I had an account on Geocities (Yahoo!) from 1998 and uploaded my CV to it, and then dabbled with blogger in 2000. I didn’t update it for many years and Yahoo! closed the account.

Just for kicks and posterior analytics, here are my first blog posts.

What a fantastic weekend we had. Christmas party at a wine farm folowed by many drinks, beach on Saturday and a good ‘ol British Sex Farce to top it off.

Trekked through the sandy underbrush on a sweltering Saturday to Sandy Bay, Cape Town’s legendary nudist beach. We almost got lost, but were pointed in the right direction by a potbellied old chap’s free willy.
What a beach _ clear, spacious, with the water bearable for a whole two minutes. this may fast become one of our favourite beaches.

Got the basic look and feel of the blog section up and running. I plugged the cv link into my old flash cv which needs updating, and my links have to start pointing to things pretty soon. Starting to get sick of the blue I pasted all over travago, but its just so easy because I know how it relates to everything.
User-defined stylesheets are in progress, and maybe a bone will be tossed to the communicator chaps.
I can’t believe this article from the bbc. They want people to speak proper English. Sure, but as defined by whom? If the Brits and their grandchildren get the US to replace the ‘u’ in color, they’ll probably cheer up for the first time since Jerry was put out of bounds. fools.

Today was a public holiday (voting for municipal elections). For the first time since i could, i did not. had a great conversation with a hairdresser who, to strike up a conversation, asked if i voted or not. I said i was from Jo’burg first, as an excuse, but really got into. She saw my point of view and my theories about who the bombers are and all the variables that preclude meaningful voting. We were expanding.
At the end she charged my 60 bucks. Wha..? of course, i said I was from Jo’burg…

K has had some people wanting her to send her some of the stuff she draws. We have to move those pics onto a better server, downloading it is like trying to get blood to my feet after Saul’s big Saloon burger orgy.
